Best platforms to donate to a mosque online: the fees, compared

Eight ways a masjid takes money online, on one table: who pays the fee, whether the donor is asked for a tip, card processing, monthly cost, receipts and kiosks. Every competitor figure was read from that company's own site on October 16, 2026. Ummah is one of the eight.

The short answer

Three things decide which platform a mosque should take donations on, and none of them is the headline rate. First, who pays the fee: the donor, the masjid, or a “tip” the donor is asked for at checkout. Second, whether the donor's name, history and receipt end up in a record the masjid owns, or in a transaction list it cannot act on. Third, what the platform costs when it is quiet, because a masjid raises most of its year in Ramadan and pays monthly fees for the other eleven months.

On those three: Zeffy and LaunchGood cost the masjid nothing and ask the donor to tip. Donorbox and Givelify take a percentage of each gift. MOHID and Masjidal sell donations inside a whole masjid system. PayPal is a button. Ummah runs donations on its Advanced plan at a 0% platform fee on the masjid's own Stripe or PayPal, with the donor record next to the member's events, membership and prayer-time community, and no tip asked of anyone.

Which one for which masjid

  • If the masjid has no budget and only needs a donation form

Zeffy or LaunchGood. Both charge the nonprofit nothing; both ask the donor for a tip, which the donor can decline. Decide whether a tip request next to zakat sits well with your community.

  • If you want the donor's record next to their membership, events and prayer-time community, with no tip asked

Ummah on Advanced, at a 0% platform fee on your own Stripe or PayPal. The $75 a month buys the whole portal, not only giving.

  • If you already run MOHID or Masjidal for the rest of the masjid

Their donation module, so one system holds everything. Compare their per-gift rate to what your own Stripe account would charge.

  • If you want a tap-to-give kiosk at the door this Ramadan

MOHID, Masjidal or Donorbox sell devices today; Masjid Solutions and MadinaApps too. Ummah does not sell hardware.

  • If you want nothing to set up at all

A PayPal Donate button, and accept that you will not know who gave beyond the transaction list.

Questions

The ones where the masjid keeps the most of each gift and keeps the donor's record. LaunchGood and Zeffy charge the nonprofit no platform fee and ask the donor for an optional tip. Donorbox and Givelify take a percentage of each gift. MOHID and Masjidal sell donations inside a masjid management suite. PayPal is a button with no donor record. Ummah runs donations on its Advanced plan at a 0% platform fee on the masjid's own Stripe or PayPal account, with the donor record next to membership and events. Compare who pays the fee, whether donors see a tip, and where the record lives.
To the nonprofit, Zeffy and LaunchGood are lowest at 0% platform fee; LaunchGood passes card processing (about 2.9% + $0.30) to the fundraiser while Zeffy covers it from donor tips. Ummah charges a 0% platform fee on Advanced and the masjid pays only its own Stripe or PayPal processing. PayPal's confirmed charity rate is 1.99% + $0.49 with no monthly cost. Givelify deducts 2.9% + $0.30. Donorbox adds 2.95% on top of processing. MOHID's donor-pay scheme is 3.32% + $0.32, paid by the donor in most cases. All figures are as published on the sites on the date below.
It differs by platform and it changes what a $100 gift is worth. On Zeffy and LaunchGood the donor is asked to tip the platform; the mosque pays nothing. On Donorbox and Givelify the nonprofit pays unless the donor ticks a box to cover fees. On MOHID the donor-pay scheme puts the fee on the donor and the fixed scheme on the masjid. On Ummah the platform fee is 0% on Advanced and the only cost is the masjid's own processor. Ask any platform to show you the receipt a donor sees before you sign.
It is a question for your scholar, but many communities are uncomfortable asking someone paying their zakat to add a voluntary payment to a software company on the same screen. Both Zeffy and LaunchGood let the donor set the tip to zero, and LaunchGood's zakat policy says card fees are not part of the zakat amount. If the tip screen matters to you, choose a platform that does not show one.
Zeffy, Donorbox, MOHID and Masjidal issue receipts automatically. Givelify issues an annual giving summary that it says is not an IRS document. LaunchGood tells donors to contact the campaign creator for a receipt. A PayPal button gives a payment receipt only. On Ummah the donor record and giving history are kept with the member, and the organization sends its statements from that record.
We make one of the eight. Every figure about the other seven was read from that company's own pricing or help page on the date below and quoted as printed, with "not published" where the site does not say. Two of them are cheaper to the nonprofit than Ummah's $75 a month if all you need is a donation form, and four of them sell hardware we do not; the picks above say so. If something here is wrong or out of date, write to us and we will correct it.
